My Hero
My hero isn't the cowboy in the white hat
Nor the singer who croons sweet sounding songs.
My hero is not the politician nor the famed stars,
My hero is but the young women and men
Who are giving their lives for you and me.
The young folk who will see tales of horror
The young folk who will die for you and me
My hero is someone whose name I don't know
Whose life they proudly put on the line
So that you and I are able to remain free.
They fight for our rights to freedom of speech
For the right to keep our lives as we know
For the right to choose who head our Country
For the right to go wherever we might go.
My hero, if you haven't guessed, is not one
But many, who serve their Country with Pride.
My hero is of many races and religions,
My heroes are each member of the Military
Each an individual, scared but determined
To protect the likes of you and me
Determined to keep us alive and free.
